2008 Awards & Family Celebration, October 18, 2008

You and your family are cordially invited to the 2008 Awards & Family Celebration to be held October 18, 2008. The event will be held at the Denver Zoo in Norgren Hall.

The event is a combined program of AG Bell and the Colorado state chapter of AG Bell. We will be celebrating the accomplishments of two of Colorado's champions of hearing health:

Marion Downs, Ph.D. – Dr. Downs has spent more than 30 years as an internationally recognized advocate for early hearing screening. Her namesake, the Marion Downs National Center for Infant Hearing at the University of Colorado at Boulder, is responsible for the implementation of universal newborn hearing screening in 17 states. AG Bell is honoring Dr. Downs with the prestigious Volta Award. This award is given to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution within the field.

David Kelsall, M.D. – Dr. Kelsall, of the Rocky Mountain Ear Center in Englewood, is a renowned surgeon specializing in cochlear implants and is widely known as an international humanitarian, taking his skills and training to underserved populations in less developed countries. The Colorado chapter of AG Bell is honoring Dr. Kelsall with the LaFawn Biddle Award, which recognizes distinguished and outstanding service to the Colorado chapter and advancing the mission of the Alexander Graham Bell Association in the state of Colorado.

In addition to celebrating the contributions of these dynamic individuals, this day will mark our annual celebration of the families that make AG Bell such a special organization. Set against the backdrop of the Denver Zoo, this day promises to be as inspiring as it will be fun.

Registration fees include lunch and full admission to the Denver Zoo on October 18, 2008. Registration information will be sent after August 1, 2008.
